A month ago, my office management informed the need to meet our business support partners in Singapore. I am from Mumbai still travelling alone that too abroad wasn’t me. My family volunteered to take care of my two and half month old baby, however I expressed my reluctance. Management eased my fear by aligning a senior manager’s business meeting dates with mine so that the manager could accompany me too, I was on cloud nine. All the required process was completed and I was to fly on Sunday.
That Saturday, I came to office to collate and prepare for the meetings aligned. But suddenly, I got a call from our manager explaining the inability to join due to family emergency. I was scared and petrified without knowing what’s stored next.
Management inquired if I could travel alone or wish to postpone the journey and reschedule the meetings. Planning and Scheduling meetings itself was a challenging task. One “No” due to my fear to travel alone in an unknown country could have left bad impression about me and my company.
My values of commitment and professionalism kept on concerning me. I worried, pondered and self introspected. With lot of courage and willpower I informed management about my decision to travel alone. Seven meetings in two days were accomplished successfully. Singaporeans were courteous and helpful. Came back with huge learning and self pride.
